Meredith June Willmott
Hi! I’m writing this in Philly, but in August 2024 I will be in the Sonoran Desert starting my Ph.D. program at the University of Arizona in Judie Bronstein’s lab. I grew up in Virginia, where I attended George Mason University for my B.S. in Biology (concentrating in Eco-Evo).
I am an entomologist, and I work specifically with insect mutualisms in urban systems. What’s a mutualism? Check out my poster. What’s an urban system? Check out the comic.
I am currently an LTER Graduate Writing Fellow, a recipient of the NSF BRIDGES Fellowship, and the insect princess (self given title, it’s the internet I can say whatever I want).
Thanks for being here! If you want to see what I’m up to, my blog and my knitting newsletter are great places to start. Other than that, I am constantly on social media, and currently host the Insect Princess Discord server, where City Bug Club details are leaked, patterns are tested, and more.
Writing
I have many unfocused opinions on nature, insects, queerness, fiber arts, and more. An inconsistent peek into my consistent rambles.
Art
My portfolio includes digital, ink, and watercolor illustrations. These pieces cover topics from urbanization to the insect diversity crisis, and can be found in sketchbooks, taxonomic papers, on the wall of my mum’s fridge, and on your screen in like 2 seconds if you click below!
Research
I am a Ph.D. student at the University of Arizona, with a background in Urban Ecology and Evolution. Check out some papers, projects, and other academic facets of my career.
